(text with tooltip) For centuries, the Rosetta Stone has fascinated those studying languages and how we cross between them. The royal decree inscribed on the Stone, issued by Egyptian King Ptolemy V in 196 B.C., is presented in a bilingual format: The Ancient Egyptian text is featured in both hieroglyphic and Demotic scripts, with a translation into Greek inscribed below. Its discovery in 1799 gave Egyptologists the key to deciphering the meaning of Egyptian hieroglyphs.

The Center for Translation Studies (CTS) has hosted international writers, translators, and scholars on campus. Through public interviews, lectures, performances, and readings, the CTS provides opportunities for students, faculty, and the broader community to engage with leading voices in the field of translation.

Many of these events have been recorded, and a selection of those recordings is available on this page, highlighting the wide range of CTS programming over the years.
