Degrees and Certificates

Graduate Degrees in Literature

While we do not offer a degree in translation per se, The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology offers MA and PhD degrees in Literature. Students interested in translation can select courses that will allow them to concentrate in translation studies.

Our graduate programs in literature provide a flexible context to pursue research across a wide range of literary traditions, critical approaches and theoretical debates. In addition to coursework in literary studies, students have the opportunity to participate in creative writing and/or literary translation workshops as well as seminars in other disciplines, such as film studies, the history of ideas, philosophy, and the visual and performing arts.

Graduate Certificate in Literary Translation

We offer a Graduate Certificate in Literary Translation which focuses on the history, theory and practice of literary translation. Students will learn to study and produce literary translations.

The certificate consists of four courses (12 semester credit hours): two foundational courses in the theory and practice of translation; one of two advanced courses in translation studies; and a seminar or workshop related to the student’s area of research.
