For centuries, the Rosetta Stone has fascinated those studying languages and how we cross between them. The royal decree inscribed on the Stone, issued by Egyptian King Ptolemy V in 196 B.C., is presented in a bilingual format: The Ancient Egyptian text is featured in both hieroglyphic and Demotic scripts, with a translation into Greek inscribed below. Its discovery in 1799 gave Egyptologists the key to deciphering the meaning of Egyptian hieroglyphs.
