"My interest in translation came after the fact that I was enrolled at UT Dallas. It was that one assignment of English to English translation during Spring 2005 that captivated me and intrigued me into studying translation. Since then, I am fascinated with this process. It is a pleasure by itself.
The Translation Center offers tremendous amount of support and guidance. The unique aspect about it is that the classes designated for translation workshops welcome all students despite their languages. They provide the opportunity of reading and critiquing writings of other languages in translation that I'm not familiar with."

"The Center for Translation Studies, even though it occupies a corner suite on the fifth floor of the Jonsson building, is really a hub of the School of Arts & Humanities at UT Dallas. The important work of promoting and fostering translation studies and works in literary translation is carried out in this center: from being the home of the American Literary Translators Association, to the work on Annotated Books Received, to the publication of Translation Review, to the activities of our Graduate Translators Association.
Professor Rainer Schulte, director of the Center, is credited with the notion of teaching translation to the students in the School of Arts & Humanities as a way of engaging more deeply with the texts they are reading in this interdisciplinary program. For the graduate student focusing in translation studies, the interdisciplinarity is particularly important because the study of the literature and history of the source language and culture is not invaluable, but essential to the translator."
